What environmental improvements have been made to my Swile Card?

The Swile Card, its packaging, transport and end-of-life have been optimised to have a more controlled environmental footprint:

The Swile Card is now made from 100% recycled PVC*.

This has a reduced environmental impact compared with conventional PVC, as it uses existing materials, based on the principle of the circular economy.
This material is suited to the life of the Swile Card, extended to 5 years, where other materials such as PLA (polylactic acid, produced from corn starch) or wood can present risks of delamination or ink that tends to fade.

Swile Card packaging is recyclable*.
It is made from paper sourced from responsibly managed and FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council®) certified forests. Its weight has been halved compared to the previous version (from 44.3g to 16.2g), significantly reducing the amount of paper we use.
The inks used for printing are solvent-free and emit no VOCs (volatile organic compounds), which contributes to its recyclability*. The process is described in our FAQ, here.

The Swile Card is sent without air transport in mainland France.
Thanks to the optimised weight of its packaging, the Swile Card is sent by La Poste, via ‘Lettre Verte’, which guarantees that it will not be flown into Metropolitan France.

Recycling cards at the end of their life is made easy.
The cards are sent free of charge to our users. The process is described in our FAQ, here. ♻️
We work with Ateliers du Bocage, a socially and environmentally responsible cooperative (member of Emmaüs and accredited as a socially responsible company) to reprocess the cards. This cooperative has strong social and environmental commitments, to which we are sensitive.

*As part of our commitment to responsibility and to saving resources, we have decided to use up the last remaining stocks of the old cards and packaging before rolling out these optimised versions. As a result, our users will receive these new versions while stocks last.
