How do I recycle my Swile card, its packaging, or an old meal voucher card?

Do you have a Swile card you no longer use, or is your company switching to Swile? Don’t worry, we’ve thought of everything! Find out how to recycle your card and help ensure it’s disposed of responsibly.

👀 Are you joining a new company that uses Swile?

If so, keep hold of your Swile card. We explain everything on this page: I’m leaving my company, what should I do with my Swile card?

♻️ How do I recycle my Swile card, its packaging, or an old meal voucher card?

Give your old card a second life by recycling it and help reduce its environmental impact. The cards are sent to Adimas, our recycling partner. There are two ways to send your card:

  • If your company has a recycling box 👉 Just pop your old card in the box! Don’t cut or bend your card, as this will make it harder to recycle.

  • If you’re not on site or your company doesn’t currently have a recycling box 👉 Pop your old card in an envelope and send it to the following address:

📩 No stamp needed, you won’t be charged anything for sending your card this way. Just pop the envelope in a postbox and you’re done!

🌟 What are the best practices?
✅ Do ❌ Don’t
Put up to 5 cards in each freepost envelope. If you send more than 5 cards, the envelope may be returned to you. Don’t worry: even sending a single card is worthwhile for the environment – recycling it avoids twice as many emissions as sending it.
Send only cards with a chip (Swile, meal voucher or gift cards, or other issuers). Don’t send cards without a chip (loyalty cards, travel cards, etc.). Don’t send bank cards, as these cause insurance issues.
Make sure the card is in good condition: not bent, not cut, and with the chip intact. Don’t bend, cut, or remove the chip from the card: a damaged card (bent, cut, or without its chip) can’t be recycled as it no longer meets industrial processing standards.
Remove any stickers, post-its, tape, or staples before sending. Don’t stick anything to the card: this interferes with recycling.
Put only the card in the envelope, without its packaging or any other papers, post-its, etc. Don’t overpack (boxes, thick envelopes, etc.): this just makes the parcel unnecessarily heavy.
🧐 What happens to my Swile card when it’s recycled?

Once your Swile card is received, whether via the box or by post, it’s handled by our recycling partner and goes through a responsible recycling process:

💡 The question we asked ourselves

To make sure we’re doing the right thing, we looked into the environmental impact of sending cards for recycling. That’s why we carried out a full environmental study to compare the different end-of-life options for our card.

The result? The environmental benefits of recycling just one card are so great that the emissions from posting the card are more than offset 👉 in other words, recycling your card, even by post, is better for the environment than not recycling it at all.

So, pop it in an envelope and send it off – we’ll take care of the rest! 😊

By taking this simple step, you’re helping us reduce our environmental impact and promote the circular economy. Thank you for doing your bit 🙌

🚮 What should I do with the packaging from my new Swile card?

It’s the big day – you’ve received your Swile card in its lovely packaging. The packaging is made from FSC or PEFC certified paper from responsibly managed forests and is 100% recyclable, so it’s over to you to recycle it.

Channel your inner Michael Jordan and aim for a slam dunk straight into the recycling bin for cardboard (the yellow one 😉) – and that’s it.
